Fried Lumpia (Indonesian Spring Roll)

IMG_4018

If people ask me what is my favorite snacks. Perhaps I will answer “Mmmmm…Lumpia Semarang”. If it sounds odd, lumpia itself is basically spring roll. We have two kind of lumpia: Lumpia basah (non- fried) and Fried Lumpia (fried one, people called it lumpia semarang. Semarang is a town where this cuisine come πŸ˜‰ ) This is the only food I couldn’t move on until today. I still remember my last trip to Semarang, Central Java with my family. No matter how good my mom in cooking, or no matter how fast I learn to cook…. I never able to 100% copy the taste of Lumpia Semarang in Semarang. I believe there are some secret behind. But well… we couldn’t go to Semarang every day! So, at least a bit copy can minimize the longing feel.

What to prepare:

Filling:

  • chopped shrimp
  • bean sprout
  • bamboo shoots- cut lengthwise
  • scrambled egg
  • garlic- finely chopped
  • red shallot- finely chopped
  • pepper
  • salt
  • red sugar
  • Soy sauce
  • oil to saute

Saute everything half-cooked

  • After that wrap the filling with the spring-roll wrap. Fried with medium-heat until done.

Voila! I think it is easy and btw! If you don’t like something too oily… you can consume it without fried it. Or… you can use the filling as topping for anything else πŸ˜‰

Ok! Wanna go! See you again πŸ™‚
